The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) has issued a warning that hanging banners on elevated scissor lifts – for advertising and signage at trade fairs and events – risks them toppling over.
IPAF is highlighting that it doesn’t take a lot of wind for the banners to start to act like sails and pull the platform over.
“Scissors lifts are safe, but improper use of this equipment can make them very dangerous,” said Andy Studdert, IPAF president, and chairman & CEO of US firm NES Rentals in an article in The Construction Index.
“Don’t put your visitors at risk – a machine with a banner attached to it could get blown over even in modest winds. Aerial lifts are not toys for joy rides or hanging banners and displays.”
Correct use of scissor lift hire
Enfield based Mr Plant Hire who offer powered access hire in the London area, endorses IPAF’s warning.
Scissor lifts are self-propelled access platforms to gain high-up access and manoeuvrability. They are designed for use in construction, manufacturing, industrial, maintenance and distribution warehouses where quick efficient access is required.
Mr Plant Hire’s own range of scissor lift hire covers all construction needs from large lifting requirements, to narrow access areas, for indoor or outdoor use and for use on flat slabs or slopes, uneven ground or rough terrains. Their equipment can cover a range of working heights up to 17m (55ft) with platform capacity of up to 1000 lbs (454kg) and workspace up to 1.73m x 5.8m.
Their scissor lift hire is available in Enfield, the wider London and nationally on a daily, weekly or a monthly basis at affordable prices.
